Camp Gifford, second largest of six WPA cantonments housing the WPA clearing crews on the upper Columbia and adjacent waters of tributary streams. This recently completed camp now accommodates 510 of the 2, 200 WPA workers on the big Coulee dam reservoir clearing project. By next summer this region will be entirely cleared, the camp removed and the Coulee reservoir will have permanently inundated the area, according to scheduled plans. US WPA 477
