WHILE SEEKING RELIEF HARRY A. BIGELOW DIES
Pioneer Business man of Seattle Expires Suddenly in Carlsbad
[photo]
Harry A. Bigelow, a Seattle pioneer businessman and a popular member of numerous local fraternal orders, died in Carlsbad Sunday. A cablegram received from his wife, who accompanied him on his trip in search of health, was received yesterday announcing his death. Mr. Bigelow came to Seattle in 1869. In 1890 he was appointed United States marshal by President Harrison, serving for three years. He went to Alaska in 1897, and was among the successful gold sekkers in that country. When he returned to Seattle he engaged in the real estate business, in which he was also successful, accumulating among other holdings some valuable property on Pike street.

Mr. Bigelow was a veteran of the civli war, serving in Company N of the Ninth Illinois cavalry. He was a charter member of the Stevens Post, No. 1, G. A. R., the first post formed in this state, and in 1901 was elected department commander for Washington and Alaska. He was a Mason, Mystic Shriner, Knight of Pythias, Odd Fellow, Elk and Eagle.

Besides his widow, who was with him at the time of his death, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. H. O. Boyd, of Auburn, and two sons, Clare V. and D. Earle Bigelow, who rides at the former home, 315 Fifteenth avenue north. Mrs. Walter Hall, of 2130-1/2 Fifth avenue, is a sister of Mrs. Bigelow.

The body will be brought to Seattle for burial.
