The seal of the Cossack Army painted on a wall in Starocherkasskaya
The seal of the Cossack Army painted on a wall in Starocherkasskaya
TitleThe seal of the Cossack Army painted on a wall in Starocherkasskaya
NotesThe seal was imposed upon the Cherkassk Cossacks by Peter the Great. It depicts a naked Cossack astride a wine-barrel, brandishing a gun. With this emblem the tsar wanted to illustrate the idea that although a Cossack would sell his last clothes for drink, he would always keep his weapon in order to defend the Fatherland.
