The Admiralty Spire in Saint Petersburg
TitleThe Admiralty Spire in Saint Petersburg
NotesDesigned by the architect A.D. Zakharov and constructed from 1806 to 1823, the Admiralty is a prime example of classicism in Russian architecture. Looking at the Neva River, the base of the tower is decorated with sculptures depicting figures from classical antiquity, while the upper part of the base is decorated with sculpture symbolizing the four elements. The gilded spire is over 220 feet long and is crowned with a ship's pennant.
