NotesDesigned by Auguste Monferrand, St. Isaac's Cathedral was built in 1818-1858. It is famous for its monumental neoclassical style and massive granite columns, as well as its sculptural compositions by Petr Klodt and I.Vitali. Its gilt dome, which contrasts with the gray stone facade of the rest of the building, is the highest point in Saint Petersburg.
