Plaque outside the Lermontov Grotto in Pyatigorsk
TitlePlaque outside the Lermontov Grotto in Pyatigorsk
NotesThe sign commemorates visits to the grotto by the Russian writer Mikhail Yurevich Lermontov in 1837 and 1841. The grotto became famous as a result of Lermontov's description of it as the meeting place of Pechorin and Vera, the hero and the heroine of his novel "A Hero of our Time." The grotto, located in a natural cave, was designed and constructed in 1830-31 by the Bernardazzi brothers, architects.
