| Description | Short-necked lute with pear/bowl-shaped body with flat soundboard. 11 strings in 6 courses (5 pairs plus an additional low string); 12 black tuning pegs (6 on left side, 6 on right); peghead is angled away from plane of fingerboard. There are no frets on the neck. The bridge is make of very dark wood. There are light and dark square wood inlays around face and up sides of fingerboard; fingerboard has dark wood designs inlayed into white fingerboard. White and dark alternating square inlays longitudinally around body and up back of neck vertically; inlayed square and diamond-shaped motifs set into back of body; back of body is made of alternating dark and lighter woods. There is one large soundhole (closest to neck) and two smaller ones, all of which have white wood cut-out roses in them. Large soundhole has alternating triangular and square inlaid designs around it with a small square and diamond design, flanked by a square, between it and the neck. U.W.
