DescriptionKorean board zither with resonator box, sounded by striking with a bamboo stick. Trapezoid box formed of separate back, soundboard (top), parallel side rails and pin blocks. Sound board, rails and pin blocks made of oak; back appears to be the same (lacquered black). Soundhole in back only. All edge surfaces are veneered rosewood; corners are bound with nickel caps (pinned).
16 courses of four brass strings each pass parallel to soundboard. Eight courses pass over a stationary bridge (rosewood with bone top) positioned so as to divide string length 3:2. These strings are played on either side of bridge (P5 relationship). Second group of eight courses pass over stationary bridge close to right hand side, yielding one long playable string length. This arrangement effectively produces a ‘bass' playing range (right bridge) and treble range (left/central bridge). Individual brass strings attached to headless pins on left side and tuning pins (nail with flattened shaft) on right side.
Top/cover same trapezoidal shape. Edges veneered rosewood, corners bound with nickel caps. Inset purfling around top.
