| Description | Double-headed barrel drum from Sunda. Kendang is the generic name for double-headed drum. The drum body is painted a light red with some of the paint chipping away. The two heads made of goatskin are strung together with thick pieces of leather. There are several small, braided, leather rings that connect the leather strings together to keep the heads of the drum taut. There are two metal rings that are attached to the side of the drum and used to attach a rope or harness to carry the instrument while it is played. There is a small, drilled hole in the side of the drum. Several of the leather straps (that hold the heads taut) are broken and there are several scrapes in the wood. |
