Modern 20th c. marbled paper, Serpentine on Peacock pattern
TitleModern 20th c. marbled paper, Serpentine on Peacock pattern
ArtistUnknown
Studio NameCockerell
Date20th century
Descriptive NotesMuira: Serpentine on Bouquet marble
Wolfe: Wide comb waved on Peacock pattern.

This is a Cockerell pattern which like others from this company lack documentation with regards to any in-house pattern names.

This pattern is created by first completing a Bouquet (Peacock) pattern as Muira describes it. Then a comb with one set of teeth set in wide intervals would be drawn through the bath once vertically in an exaggerated, undulating wavy line.

The primary colors for this example are dark blue, green, red and white.

Collection NotesThis sample is scanned from a book cover. The book is 3/4 bound in green leather with the marbled paper inlaid. The endsheets match the covers. Verso side of front endsheet has stamped binder's name "Bound by R.W. Smith".
