Although Wolfe suggests that this pattern's creation dates back to at least as early as 1630, Muira traces its beginnings to a later decade, 1660 in France.
This pattern is created by starting with any pattern as a base, in this case Turkish. Once the desired base pattern is completed either an individual stylus or a comb with one set of teeth set in very wide intervals would be inserted into the bath and swirled.
