Vintage 19th C. marbled paper, French curl on Nonpareil pattern
TitleVintage 19th C. marbled paper, French curl on Nonpareil pattern
ArtistUnknown
Date19th century
Descriptive NotesWolfe: French Curl on Nonpareil
Miura: Snail on Nonpareil

The pattern is created by following all the steps necessary to make a (typical) Nonpareil pattern. The final step would be to draw in the swirls using either a stylus or a comb whose teeth are set in wide intervals.

The primary colors for this example are grey, blue, red, green and yellow ochre.

Collection NotesThe flat sample from which this photo was scanned is a salvaged endsheet. There is no record of the original item from which these endsheets were taken. Information regarding creation dates has therefore been estimated (using Wolfe), typically by century.
