TitleModern 20th c. marbled paper, Wide comb pattern
ArtistGuyot, Don
Studio NameColophon Hand Bindery
Place of ProductionUnited States -- Washington (State) -- Seattle
Date1978
Descriptive NotesAccording to Wolfe this is an example of a Wide comb pattern. Muira refers to this as an Arch marble.

This pattern is very similar to and often confused with the Nonpareil. The difference (although neither Muira nor Wolfe say so outright) being that the combs used in a Nonpareil have teeth set in far narrower intervals.

The pattern is created by staring with a Turkish base. Then a comb with one set of teeth is drawn across the bath twice horizontally in both directions, the second pass halfing the first. Then a comb with teeth set in much wider intervals is drawn through the bath one final time horizontally causing the arches to form.

This sample is a second.

Collection NotesThis sample is a flat sample from amongst a box of samples Guyot would have used to monitor his inventory and pattern types for his company, Colophon.
