TitleVintage 19th c. marbled paper, French Curl on Double comb pattern
ArtistUnknown
Date19th century
Descriptive NotesWolfe: French Curl on a Double Comb
Miura: Snail on Nonpareil variation

This pattern is created when first a Double comb pattern is completed. Then an individual stylus or a comb with one set of teeth set in very wide intervals would be inserted into the bath and swirled.

The primary colors for this sample are red, blue, white, and yellow ochre.

Collection NotesThe flat sample from which this photo was scanned is a salvaged endsheet. There is no record of the original item from which these endsheets were taken. Information regarding creation dates has therefore been estimated (using Wolfe), typically by century.
