Vintage 19th c. marbled paper, Tiger pattern
Vintage 19th c. marbled paper, Tiger pattern
TitleVintage 19th c. marbled paper, Tiger pattern
ArtistUnknown
Date1876
Descriptive NotesWolfe: Tiger
Miura: Sun (Miura does acknowledge that in a couple of other languages this pattern has been called a Tiger or Cat's eye marble.)

This pattern was created in approximately 1855.

According to Miura this pattern is created by dropping two or three colors onto the bath. Then a final color (usually black) is mixed with 'kreolin', lime water and potash solution is thrown onto the bath. This last colors' chemical solution causes the spots to react in such a way as to appear like eyes with dark irises at the center from which tiny rays of the same color to spread out around it.

The primary colors for this sample are orand and black.

Collection NotesThis sample is scanned from a book cover.

This book has Spanish pattern marbled endsheets.
