TitleCappelle DeBrum with family, Likiep Island, summer 1949
PhotographerUnknown
Date1949
NotesImages documenting the 1949 Bikini-Eniwetok Resurvey Project.

Eniwetok is now known as Enewetak
Caption in scrapbook: The names met in him
Cappelle DeBrum, handsome and friendly and alert, had been termed by Father Feeney the public relations man of the atoll. He was a person easy to remember, too, because his name linked those of Cappelle and DeBrum, who were partners in the purchase of Likiep. Cappelle, like some other Marshallese, could remember occaisions when he had been beaten by the Japanese when he did enforced labor at Jaluit. His daughter, Almira (right) is a teacher at the Catholic mission school.
