No member of the AEC Donaldson Survey, 1949, ever will forget Likiep -- and none will view these pictures of Likiep lagoon without a twinge of nostalgia. These photographs were taken at the water's edge on Saturday August 20, as late morning sun lighted the white hulls of the outriggers and the blue of the sky glowed in the quiet waters of the harbor. Likiep was just as peaceful and as friendly as it appears here and, to white men who had that week walked in the barren, blasted distances of Eniwetok, the beauty of Likiep was both welcome and stirring.
