THE FOLLOWING IS A TRANSCRIPT OF THIS INTERVIEW:
Well, I came to the Des Moines area around 1980, having been born in China and traveled to Taiwan when the Communists took over China. Then, because my father was a diplomat for Taiwan, I traveled from Taiwan to Rome, Italy, where I finished my high school there. Then I heard the call in the American folk song, like, [singing] "Oh Shenandoah, I hear you calling. Far away, over the mountain. Oh Shenandoah, I hear you calling. Far away, and far away. Across the wide Atlantic." And there, I followed the calling and came to United States as a college student at age 17. |
