Pysht is a community on a small inlet at the wide mouth of the Pysht River on the Strait of Juan de Fuca in north central Clallam County. It was formerly the headquarters for the Merrill & Ring Tree Farms. This Indian name, meaning fish, has been spelled in almost every possible form.
This particular Shay locomotive, Shop Number 1817, was built in February 1907. Merril & Ring acquired it by 1922 for its Pysht logging operation.
