| Contextual Notes | The Nehalem Timber & Logging Company was founded in 1905 in Portland, Oregon. The company largely operated in Scappoose and the surrounding Columbia County area. The logging company also owned the Portland & Southwestern Railway Company, which allowed them to transport timber to Portland. In 1927, the Nehalem Timber & Logging Company and the Portland & Southwestern Railway Company became part of a four part merger, in which the Clark & Wilson Lumber Company became the main operator. The Beaver Lumber Company at Prescott was also included in this merger. The new president of the company was O.M. Clark, who died in 1929 at the age of 78 (Source: "Four Lumber Mills Merge" The Spokesman-Review, 10-21-1927) |
