| Contextual Notes | The Buehner Lumber Company was founded by Philip Buehner. The mill was located at North Bend in Coos County. Company camps opened later at Allegany (1921) and Eel Lake. The South Pacific railroad expanded to the Coos County area in 1916, which connected the once-isolated area to Eugene and Lane County and was a boon for business. The company also owned two steam schooners that made regular lumber transports to San Pedro and San Francisco. The company was bought in 1923 by a syndicate of eastern and southern loggers called the Stout Lumber Company. At this time, Mr. Buehner decided to retire from business. |
