| Contextual Notes | Reliance was a logging community on the north side of the Nisqually River three and a half miles west of Elbe in southern Pierce County. It was inundated by Alder Dam and a community called New Reliance was built a half mile north of Alder. The Reliance Lumber Company built the original Reliance. A nearby hill is called Reliance Hill.
