Includes illustrated alphabets and lessons that cover a wide variety of subjects including history, the natural sciences, moral behavior, religion, and pastimes and occupations. The stories also warn of the evils and consequences of drinking, fighting, playing with guns, playing too close to fires, imprisonment, and worshipping false Gods.
The lesson on this page explains how a little girl's clothes caught on fire when she went too near the hearth one day. Her brother doused her in water but she was still badly burned and scarred. The lesson ends by warning children to be careful near fire because they can be scarred or even burn to death. The illustration shows the brother dumping a bucket of water on the girl to put out the flames.
The illustration at the top of the page depicts a suspension bridge spanning a river.
