Originally written in German, this is a French translation designed for the use of families and schools. This is essentially a lesson book that utilizes pictures and objects grouped together conceptually to teach vocabulary and grammar. The illustrations range from exotic flowers, weapons, and modes of transportation to depictions of various geographic locations such as Madrid, the Alps, the Middle East, and the Arctic. Lessons are often written below the illustrations.
This page depicts foreigners which include: an Oriental, an African, a "brown" Indian, and a "copper" Indian. The narration below the illustration questions why these savages don't wear alot of clothes and why they decorate themselves the way they do.
