Notes19th century educational board designed to help teach the alphabet and for spelling and writing exercises. This one is made out of wood with movable letters. It features a beige background with red letter pegs and is decorated with fleur-de-lis type designs.

Contextual NotesThe earliest educational boards were patented in 1886 and used by educators as late as the 1950s. They were made primarily out of wood although some were manufactured out of tin, cardboard and stone.
