Each letter of the alphabet is represented by a trade or occupation.
"T was a Tinker, who mended a pot." The illustration depicts a man in patched and tattered clothing staring at a broken teapot that is sitting on the table in the shape of the letter "T." Hanging from hooks and nails above his head are other broken pots.
Contextual NotesEdmund Blampied was a lithographer, caricaturist, cartoonist, book illustrator, and artist working in oils, watercolours, silhouettes and bronze. He is primarily known for his etchings and drypoints.
Thomas Nelson is a publishing firm that began in Scotland in 1798. It originally sold only religious texts, but increasingly also began selling popular literature and educational material in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
