Contextual NotesIn 1787, William Darton, a Quaker, began a printing, engraving, and book publishing firm in London. In 1791 he partnered with another Quaker, Joseph Harvey and the firm was renamed Darton & Harvey. At first they published Quaker works but soon became a leader in the field of children's books. When Darton's son, Samuel, joined the firm in 1810, the name was changed to Darton, Harvey & Darton.
