Each letter of the alphabet illustrates a different scene from the British railway system.
"I is the Iron of which rails are made, And J is the Junction where two lines are laid." The illustration depicts a signal guard at a railway junction near a railway station.
"K is the Key, which fastens the door when the carriage is full, and will not hold one more." The illustration depicts a railway guard locking a train carriage door.
"L is the Lamp, which the porter will light, if we pass through a tunnel or travel at night." The illustration depicts a porter lighting a lamp.
"M are the Mails from all parts of the land, to the General Post in St. Martin's-le-Grand." The illustration depicts two men loading bags of mail labelled G.P.O onto a train car.
Contextual NotesAunt Louisa was a pseudonym for Laura B. J. Valentine. Valentine was the general editor of Frederick Warne & Company's juvenile publishing department.
