This book is both an alphabet book and a reader. There are eight pages of letters with accompanying words and illustrations in typical alphabet book fashion, and six pages of word lists and short stories. Each letter in the alphabet section is decorated with a stars and stripes motif.
The cover depicts a boy in a sailor suit preparing to hoist an American flag.
Contextual NotesMcLoughlin Brothers was active between 1858 and 1920 and at one time was seen as a pioneer in color printing technologies in children's books.
