The cover depicts a boy riding a rocking horse and waving a flag that has the title printed on it. The illustration is signed by W. McConnell.
The date of publication is based on an inscription written on the front endpaper. Inscription reads: "Birthday present from Daniel O'Rooke to his second daughter Kathleen.. 18th Dec. 1857".
Contextual NotesThe Dalziel Brothers was a highly productive firm of Victorian engravers founded in 1839 by George Dalziel and his brother Edward. They were later joined by their brothers John and Thomas.
David Bogue established his publishing and bookselling business at 86 Fleet Street in 1826. He remained at that location until his death in 1856.
