Series: Pathfinder physiology, no. 1 The preface states that the book was prepared as a result of legislation passed in Massachusetts which required children in the Primary Schools as well as those in higher grades to be taught the effects of alcohol, tobacco, and opium upon the human system in connection with other facts of physiology and hygiene. Lessons cover the muscles, bones, nerves, heart, lungs and skin as well as beer, tobacco, distilling alcohol, opium, nourishment, strength, the senses, heat and cold and finally "Wasted money". Each section includes text and review questions. This image depicts two "Esquimaux catching walrus" to illustrate the point that eating some fat is necessary, especially in colder climates, but eating too much fat is unhealthy. |
