NotesSmall chapbook with hand colored woodcut illustrations.
An alphabet book in which every letter is accompanied by an illustration and a single word. This page depicts a ship, tinman working at his bench, unicorn, and vulture.
Contextual NotesThis is not a "battledore", but a chapbook. Battledores were made of cardboard while chapbooks were cheap "single signature" booklets from 8 to 32 pages made from flimsy paper and illustrated with often crudely made woodcuts.
Elisha Turner is known to have been active as a publisher as early as 1828. Turner died in 1843.
