This small book chronicles the walk that Albert and Arthur make with their mother, Mrs. Charles, to Lewis's where she is astonished "at seeing the great alterations that had been made since her last visit…"
The back cover depicts a line of young men following a man in a top hat out of a building with an "Academy" sign on it and down the street.

Contextual NotesThe first Lewis's clothing store for boys opened on Liverpool's Bold Street in 1856. Around 1864, the business expanded into women's clothing. It had become a full scale department store on Ranelagh Street by the 1870s.
