| Contextual Notes | The American Tract Society was founded in New York in 1825 to publish evangelistic Christian literature. The woodcut vignette on the cover typifies the new style of engraving adopted by the American Tract Society in 1844. A second vignette done in an earlier style appears on the title page. Daniel Fanshaw left the American Tract Society in 1846. This title was listed as a "new tract" in the American Tract Magazine (Mar. 1834). It replaced "On the instruction of the rising generation" as tract number 28. |
