An example of a picture Bible that were quite popular in this early period. The Bible is written as a rebus with pictures substituting for words throughout. If the puzzle proved too challenging to decipher, the bottom of each page provides a prose version of the pictographic offerings. Each page has ornamental borders. Page 1 shows the text and illustrations for Genesis 1:26.
