The preface also recommends that this book may be used by foreign born adults learning English as a second language.

Second edition. The first edition was printed in 1939 under the title "A children's picture dictionary."

Contextual NotesStuart A. Courtis was an education reformer who attempted to apply scientific testing methods to education to determine how effective teaching in the classroom was. He is well known for his "Courtis Tests" which were some of the earliest standardized tests used by schools.
