NotesIn publisher's color pictorial wrappers; color printed on cloth; red cloth spine zigzag-stitched in yellow thread. Dean's rag books trademark ("quite indestructible") on back cover.
Each letter depicts a different trade or occupation.
"H was a hunter who hunted a buck." The illustration depicts a horse throwing his rider while a buck runs away.
"I was an Italian who had a white mouse." The illustration shows a man with a mouse, dustpan, and broom, and a woman shouting in surprise.
Contextual NotesDavid Brett was a pseudonym used by illustrator Eugénie Richards for some of her work with Dean. Dean's Rag Book Company, Ltd. was founded in Fleet Street in London in 1903 by Henry Samuel Dean to launch his children's rag book idea.
