In this book, an old fairy sells magic sticks to all the children in a village. When the sticks start misbehaving, the children attempt to get rid of the sticks.
This page depicts a young boy playing with a hoop and a hoop-stick made from his magic stick. When he refuses to let his little sister play with his hoop, the hoop-stick starts beating him. Printed below the illustration: Timothy's stick whacks him.
