Engraved and illustrated half-title: "Alphabet des métiers pour les petits garcons et les petites filles bien raisonnables.
The book is divided into four sections: the letters of the alphabet and punctuation; words of one, two, three, four, five, and six syllables; short instructive phrases; and an illustrated alphabet with an important profession in society depicted and its description given for each letter.
The frontispiece depicts "Les Petits Travailleurs réunis" (Small workers meeting). In the illustration, one young boy pulls down branches with a scythe, two split a log with a two-person saw, another hones something on a foot-powered whetstone, and the fifth works with a mallet and another tool. In the background is a town with a windmill.
The title page depicts an angel sitting at a piece of machinery. Printed below the image is: Amour du Travail (Love of Labor).
