| Notes | Chapbook illustrated with uncolored woodcuts. Part of the Twelve Chapbooks series. A story about two undisciplined rich children and their fate. Miss Jessie is slatternly, ignorant and vulgar. Master Watty is slothful and indolent and hates exertion and even has trouble feeding himself. They waste their lives and money, and die in unfortunate ways, Miss Supine dashing out her brains after being thrown from her horse during a fox hunt and Master Watty dying in debtor's prison. Page 28 depicts Miss Jessy laying dead before a gate after her horse threw her during a fox hunt. The story suggests that if she had acted in a more feminine manner throughout her life, she would not have died in such a way. |
