A nursery rhyme about a rich Daddy Longlegs with an "abundance of gold" who spends his days courting the ladies. After meeting what he thinks is his true love, Miss Butterfly, he vows "to be her's, 'pon his honor". Unfortunately the marriage is interrupted by a fat swallow as "cuel as Nero" who carries the spider off to his fate. The butterfly who is offended by Daddy Longlegs departing without saying good-bye, is determined to marry old Gaffer Grasshopper to banish her sorrow. In the end, the spider returns having survived his ordeal minus some appendages and taunts Miss Butterfly with: "Oh! Jenny, my honey, I'd give you all my money could I but have call'd you my wife; but, henceforth, we sever, for ever and ever, so she's your's, neighbor Gaffer, for life."

Leaf 7 depicts the butterfly, grasshopper, and other insects flying through an open window to escape the Old Daddy Longlegs as he pursues Miss Butterfly.
Leaf 8 depicts the daddy longlegs flying back out through the window once he realizes that the butterfly has already married the grasshopper.
