| Contextual Notes | John Harris was the successor of E. Newbery. In 1807, he began publishing the very popular Harris's Cabinet series of which the most popular titles were The Butterfly's Ball, The Peacock at Home, The Elephant's Ball, and The Lion's Masquerade. In 1883, Harris' successors, Griffith and Farran, reprinted these four titles using facsimile reproductions of the text and illustrations from the Flaxman collection. William Mulready was an Irish genre painter living in London who is best known for his romanticizing depictions of rural scenes (Source: Wikipedia). |
