Anzac stands for the Australian New Zealand Army Corps.
"C is for Canada, gallant and true, whose sons make the Huns look decidedly blue." The illustration depicts a Canadian soldier wearing a sling and covered in miniature flags. A young girl and boy stand in front of him offering him more flags.
Contextual NotesJoyce Dennys was an illustrator, painter, author and playwright. While serving as a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) during WWI, she was contacted by John Lane who asked her to illustrate this book. The images she drew were inspired by the scenes that she had seen while volunteering at military hospitals in Devon, England.
