| Contextual Notes | Joyce Dennys was an illustrator, painter, author and playwright. While serving as a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) during WWI, she was contacted by John Lane who asked her to illustrate this book. The images she drew were inspired by the scenes that she had seen while volunteering at military hospitals in Devon, England. |
