|Contextual Notes||Chatterbox was a British magazine for children that was established in 1866 by Reverend J. Erskine Clark to provide healthy reading for children and to compete with Penny Dreadfuls. In its early years, Chatterbox contained a mixture of serial stories, factual articles, and a moderate degree of religious instruction. In later years, more adventurous material was included. Chatterbox survived until 1948 (Oxford Companion to Children's Literature, 1984).|
Harrison Weir was a natural history artist and a great lover of animals. He organized the first cat show in England in the Crystal Palace, London, in 1871.
