The title page depicts three figures sitting on a bench perhaps illustrating "good, bad and indifferent": a woman dressed in all black, a man holding a knapsack, and a man whose face is hidden behind a newspaper. |
| Contextual Notes | G.E. Farrow was an English children's author who is best known for his books "The Mysterious Shin Shira" and "The Wallypug of Why." John Hassall, the son of a naval officer, was born in Walmer, Kent, England in 1868. He studied art in Antwerp and Paris at the Academie Julien, 1894. He eventually became a full-time illustrator, designing posters and children's books (AskART website). |
