On verso of image: The dominant figures stand for Alaska, Yukon and the Pacific. The Shell, laden with gold from Alaska and the Yukon, the fruit and flowers from the Pacific states, represent the shipping interests. The Salmon portray the fishing industries. The Totem Poles stand for a by-gone age giving place to a new creation indicated by the outlines in the background of the Exposition Buildings of 1909, dimly seen in their new glory. The original painting will be on exhibition in its own building on the grounds.PH Coll 777.x.Exhibit.2 |
