Contextual NotesMuir Glacier heads about 9 miles south of Mount Harris and trends southeast 12 miles to Muir Inlet, 6 miles northwest of Westdahl Point and 77 miles northwest of Hoonah. It was named about 1880 for John Muir (1834-1918), the American naturalist who discovered this glacier on his 1879 trip to Alaska. [Source: Donald Orth.
