| Contextual Notes | Jabour's Trained Wild Animal Arena contained tigers, leopards, bears, zebras, hyenas, elephants, seals, sea-lions, pumas, wildcats, monkeys, baboons, panthers, snakes, alligators, and lions.
"The Trail" was an 800 foot-long street that featured amusements and carnival attractions.
In the left corner of the picture, there is a cart selling Abetta biscuits. Abetta biscuits was a direct competitor of Uneeda biscuits, popular soda crackers produced by the National Biscuit Company. In 1914, Nabisco won a lawsuit against the Pacific Biscuit Company for their use of a similar package, trademark, and name to sell Abetta biscuits.
The Lewis and Clark Exposition was hosted by the city of Portland from June 1 to October 15, 1905. Covering over 400 acres, the fair showcased exhibits from various nations and states, and it promoted the economic potential of the Pacific Northwest region. |
