Contextual NotesThe history of the Lucky Shot Gold Mine dates back to 1918. Nearly a century has passed since its discovery. The discovery was rumored to have been made by a man in a hunting party tracking ptarmigan. It was the last important gold-lode discovery among the family of quartz veins in the Talkeetna Mountains, and yielded the most gold and had the longest mining run in the Willow Creek Mining District.
