Contextual NotesHenry Tureman Allen was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Cavalry. While serving on the staff of General Nelson Miles, he participated in the Alaska Exploratory Expedition in 1885, which explored and mapped a significant portion of the interior of Alaska, including the Copper, Tanana, and Koyukuk Rivers.
